VG Piñol laments death of guard in MILF raid on provincial jail

Kidapawan City, June 11 - North Cotabato Vice Governor Manny Piñol lamented the death of provincial security guard Jake Rosales who lost his life defending the provincial jail against Moro Islamic Liberation Front attackers early dawn today.

Rosales was hit in the head by a sniper’s bullet as he and other jail guards, augmented by elements of the Provincial Police Mobile Group, were fending off the armed assault of some 50 armed MILF rebels who were trying to free a high profile prisoner allied with their group.


 
P100M loan resolution loses at 7-6

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of North Cotabato has voted 7-6 against a resolution granting Gov. Jesus N. Sacdalan authority to enter into a P100 million bank loan to finance the acquisition of additional equipment for exclusive use in road asphalting projects.

1st Shipment of Cotabato Hog Meat Arrives in Manila

The first shipment of 15 tons of dressed and chilled hog meat from North Cotabato worth almost P2 million arrived yesterday in Manila without any major problems and was accepted by the buyer based in the province of Bulacan.

North Cotabato Vice Governor Manny Piñol, who initiated the program "Paghahayupan Tulong Pangkabuhayan" which aims to link North Cotabato backyard hog raisers to the Metro Manila market, said the success of the first shipment which he considers a "dry-run" will signal a continuing operation of the project.

More positive economic prospects may be available to North Cotabato hog raisers with Vice Governor Manny Piñol’s continuing efforts to make the industry one of the hubs of income generating activities to counter the effects of the worldwide economic crisis in the province.

Vice Gov. Piñol is traveling to Bangkok, Thailand Sunday to meet with top officials of Charoen Pokphand (CP) Group, a large Thai business conglomerate with interests in agri-business and food manufacturing among others.


 
SP set to present NorthCot position on GRP-MILF talks to PGMA during visit

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of North Cotabato is all set to present to President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo the provincial government's position on the Mindanao peace process when she visits the provincial capitol at Amas, Kidapawan City tomorrow, February 13.

The President's visit is part of ongoing consultations being conducted by the Office of the Presidential Assistant on the Peace Process (OPAPP) on the resumption of peace negotiations between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front.

KIDAPAWAN CITY - The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of North Cotabato yesterday deferred the approval of Governor Jesus N. Sacdalan’s request for authority to enter into and sign a Memorandum of Agreement with the Greater Cotabato Federation of Irrigator’s Association for the implementation of the provincial government’s Fertilizer Assistance Program under the Cost Recovery or Fertilize Now Pay Later Scheme.
